Peninsula Committee Los Angeles Philharmonic

We are a volunteer nonprofit that is part of the LA Phil Affiliates.  We support the LA Phil through fundraising, youth music education, and fostering the love of music in our community.

Our Mission

The Peninsula Committee, founded in 1952, is one of 17 Affiliate Committees whose volunteers support the mission of the LA Phil through fundraising, youth music education, and fostering the love of music in the community. Our members are ambassadors for music from the Palos Verdes Peninsula and the South Bay.

Fundraising

We hold two major fundraisers each year. The Grand Salon is a musical evening held in a private home for members and invited guests. Our Fall Fundraiser features performances by talented Southern California musicians. It is open to the public and is held at a scenic venue in keeping with the theme of the event. We also hold a Silent Auction that raises funds for our youth programs.

Youth Music

Music Mobile™ is an introduction to the symphony orchestra for third graders, with rollicking fun during hands-on time playing the instruments. Music Mobile™ reaches more than 1900  students at over 20 schools. Music in the Garden provides student musicians and choral groups an opportunity to perform for the community. We also feature student ensembles at our events, and donate funds that support the YOLA program.

Music Outreach

We support the Toyota Symphonies for Youth concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall by providing tickets for families to purchase. We also provide buses for adults to the LA Phil’s Friday midday series. At four Salons a year, we enjoy intimate performances by outstanding musicians that include time to get to know the artists.

Hollywood Bowl

Youth Orchestra LA, or YOLA, currently serves more than 1300 young musicians across four sites, providing them with free instruments, intensive music instruction, academic support, and leadership training.  Coming soon is a new headquarters at The Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center in Inglewood, which will mark the next step in YOLA’s evolution: a space of its own. Watch this joyful video of Gustavo Dudamel visiting the YOLA students on the campus at Esteban E. Torres High School, a performing arts magnet school in East LA.
