About Us
How We Got Started

The Peninsula Committee, was founded in 1952, and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1962. The all-volunteer organization drew its members from the Palos Verdes Peninsula and surrounding cities, and quickly grew into a vital force supporting the LA Phil.
Dorothy Chandler, named executive vice president of the Southern California Symphony Assn. in 1951, was tasked with reopening the Hollywood Bowl, which had closed the previous year because of financial difficulties. She went on to spearhead massive efforts to construct the Music Center. The LA Phil Affiliates, including the Peninsula Committee, supported ticket sales and the fundraising efforts.
Our Mission
Our mission is to support the LA Phil through fundraising, promoting ticket sales for concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl, and encouraging member contributions to the Friends campaign. (If you join Friends, tell them the Peninsula Committee sent you.)
We support youth music education, and showcase talented local artists through performances at our events. The money we raise is donated to the LA Phil, and to public schools to help fund their music programs.
We are passionate about the power of music in bringing people together, making us more resilient, and sparking our imaginations.
Our Programs
Music can change the world because it changes people.

Fundraising
We hold two major fundraisers a year. The Grand Salon is an elegant musical evening held in a private home for members and invited guests and includes a Silent Auction. Our Fall Fundraiser is open to the public and features performances by Southern California musicians at a scenic venue in keeping with the theme of the event. All funds raised at these events support the LA Phil and local youth music programs.

Youth Music
Music Mobile™ is a classroom introduction to the symphony orchestra for third graders, with rollicking fun during hands-on time playing the instruments. Music in the Garden provides student musicians and choral groups an opportunity to perform for the community. We also fund music programs through donations to the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District.

Friendship
We welcome members who share our love of music, and want to make new friends while contributing to the LA Phil and our community. We offer a rich slate of social events where we enjoy great music together, along with engaging committee work where we plan events and do the work of the organization. Members can also join Affiliate activities such as an Orientation Tour at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Invitational Rehearsals.
