Music in the Garden
For those who remember with nostalgia the Peninsula Music Fairs produced by members of the Peninsula Committee Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra from 1972 to 2008, the committee is presenting a comparatively mini, but nonetheless inspirational, day of music showcasing South Bay intermediate and high school musicians from the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Torrance. The event, from noon to 4 p.m. March 1 at the South Coast Botanic Garden, will feature music, singing and face painting in the Children’s Garden, plus ongoing ensembles in the Frances Young Hall Auditorium.
Guests also can purchase food and enjoy the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, which coincides with the music event at the SCBG. In addition, the popular Music Mobile van will be on display featuring hands-on demonstrations of orchestra instruments, and painters, strolling musicians and a food truck will add to the festivities.
Admission may be purchased at the door or ticket packages are available in advance as follows: Family pack for $25 includes one or two adults and children (up to 5 people total), individual adult for $9, or individual youth (18 and under) for $5. Send checks, made out to PCLAP, to P.O. Box 2122, Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA 90274. For more information, visit www.pclaphil.org/.
