Music Appreciation — Bach to Broadway and the Silver Screen

Five PCLAP members – Jane Beseda, Marian Duntley, Ann Ehrenclou, Sheri Gill and Karen Tozer  — attended a Music Appreciation course on Saturday.  Sponsored by the Affiliates At Large, Sheldon Cohen explored the influences of Classical music in the theater in the Bach to Broadway session.  Musical highlights from the scores of Kismet, Mame, Oklahoma, Porgy and Bess, Westside Story and many others demonstrated how Classical music creates moods, settings and story lines.  Next Saturday’s course will discuss the influences on the Silver Screen.  It will be held October 19 at the Volunteer Cottage from 10:30 to noon.  The cost is $30 per person and includes study materials, refreshments and parking.  Space is still available; contact Nancy Howard at (818) 761-0500 or by e-mail at nd_howard@yahoo.com.
