Many thanks to Meredith Grenier for the article “About Town:  Peninsula Committee’s Grand Salon 2013 benefits the Los Angeles Philharmonic,” posted on dailybreeze.com on May 24.  Meredith did a fine job with the basics of “Who, What, When, Where.”  Then she makes the article come alive by recounting charming snippets of conversations overheard during the evening.  Please enjoy the full text by clicking here.

A “Grand” Grand Salon

A beautiful setting, warm hosts, enchanting music, delectable food, exhilarating auction bidding, and teamwork to make it all happen — those elements combined to make this another “grand” year for the Grand Salon and Auction.

Nathan Cole, violin, Akiko Tarumoto, violin, and Micah Yui, piano, were featured performers for the evening.  Nathan is First Associate Concertmaster with the LA Phil.  He is a native of Lexington, Kentucky, and made his debut with the Louisville Orchestra at age ten.  He is currently on the faculty at the Colburn School, with classes at the Colburn Conservatory and USC.  He is an online teaching artist with ArtistWorks, so if you want to brush up on your violin skills, visit him at nathancoleviolin.com.

Akiko, a New York native and Nathan’s wife, studied at the preparatory division of the Juilliard School, received her bachelor’s degree from Harvard, and her Master of Music degree from Juilliard.  She returned to the LA Phil this fall as a member of the second violin section.  Micah  is a piano instructor at the Colburn School.

Rising stars from PV High School and a flute trio welcomed the crowd and proved the value of our Youth Music fundraising.

Memories of the May Salon

Long-time members, new members, and guests enjoyed the May Salon, graciously hosted by Denyse Miller in her stunning coastal home.   This panoramic vista greeted us as we gathered on May 14 for a morning of music and fellowship.

Pianist Dmitry Rachmanov stirred us with a virtuoso performance, selecting compositions by Schubert, Liszt, Chopin, and his signature Russian composer, Alexander Scriabin.
