Rising Stars to Showcase Their Talent

Isabella Ma, Piano

Isabella Ma, age 15, has studied piano since the age of 7, and has been studying with Anli Lin Tong since age 9.  She has won numerous competitions, and has performed as a soloist with the Bellflower Symphony Orchestra, the Beach Cities Symphony Orchestra, the Brentwood Westwood Symphony Orchestra, the Palos Verdes Regional Symphony Orchestra and the Palos Verdes Peninsula High School Symphonic Orchestra.  Isabella also plays the violin and has been a dedicated member of the Palos Verdes Regional Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Elmer Su since 2009.  Isabella’s musical talent and pianistic achievements have brought her latest honor, as the First Prize Winner of the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Concerto Competition, and she will be featured as a soloist with the YMF Debut Orchestra during its next concert season.  For the 2012 summer, she was invited to be an active participant at the International Summer Festival in Salzburg, Austria.

Mini Maestros Trio

The trio of Shelby Wong, Amber Correa, and David Morgan placed first in the South Bay MTAC VOCE 2012.
Shelby Wong, a 12-year-old violinist and pianist, gave her first public performance at the age of four, and soloed on both violin and piano at age 9.  She is a member of the Symphony Orchestra at Orange County High School of the Arts.  In addition to solo performances, Shelby performs with her Junior Chamber Music group.  She has competed at the MTAC VOCE state finals after winning both Junior Solo Strings and Intermediate Ensemble.  As a young soloist, she played with the Laguna Woods Village Symphony in 2010 and the Saddleback College Symphony Orchestra in 2011.  She was invited to perform at the International Young Musicians Concert in Cambridge, England when she was 8.

Amber Correa, age 11, will enter the 6th grade Gate Program at Mesa View Middle School in the fall.  She has enjoyed playing violin since the age of 6, and has studied with Deborah H. Kim for the last two years.   Amber has received awards, honors and scholarships at the Orange County Junior Chamber Music Competition for the past two years, and she was awarded first place in the strings division of the Orange County Korean Music Competition in June, 2012.  She is concertmaster at Seabreeze Youth Orchestra in Huntington Beach, and also plays violin with the Saddleback College/Laguna Woods Symphony Orchestra starting in January 2012.

For this performance, Betty Cheung is substituting for the third member of the Mini Maestros Trio, eleven year old pianist David Morgan.  Ms. Cheung received her Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music and attained her FTCL and LRSM from London.  She has been a piano teacher and accompanist in the South Bay for over 20 years, and is currently a member of the South Bay Branch of the Music Teachers Association of California.
