Come Sail Away

The Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club was the perfect setting for over 100 PCLAP “Sailors” to enjoy end-of-summer fellowship at the Summer Party on August 12—complete with fresh ocean breezes, mouth-watering food by Cafe Cegos, and the classical guitar of Iren Arutyunyan, an award-winning graduate of the USC Thornton School of Music. You can hear Iren again, playing Albeniz’ “Cadiz” by clicking here.

Prizes for best nautical attire went to Craig Block-Miller, who won the Commodore’s award, and Pilar Hale Simmons, who won the First-Mate’s Award.  Recognition for First Mate costumes also went to Nancy Stefanides, Mary Curtin, and Susie Kaliser.

Marlene and Mick Shlens  added drama to the evening with a silent auction donation of two sailboat cruises for 4, each followed by libations and dinner at the Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club.  The lucky winners were Lorraine McWhinnie and friends, and the Eichels and Farinskys.  The auction added a hefty $1,000 to our Youth Music Education Fund!

Many thanks to Marlene Shlens and Kay Maselter for organizing the event, and to Jeff Grant and Marilyn Hoffman for the great photos.
