At the end of a spectacular performance by Trio Celeste, in all corners of the spacious home of Vida and Paul Vazin, the words “Best Ever!” were being whispered in awed tones. Violinist Iryna Krechkovsky, Cellist Ross Gasworth, and Pianist Kevin Kwan Loucks brought members to the verge of tears with their beautiful playing of “Gypsy” by Haydn and “Dumky” by Dvorak, followed by a rousing Tango in encore.
The rich sound of the 1689 Baumgartner Stradivarius, played masterfully by Iryna, warmed the room. Iryna gave the history of the 324 year old Stradivarius awarded on loan by the Canada Council for the Arts Music Instrument Bank. Ross Gasworth delighted members by describing the history of his two year old cello purchased in Poland, his wife’s birthplace. Iryna and Ross were classmates at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Iryna and Kevin met in New York where Kevin attended Juilliard and played with Iryna’s sister, who is also a violinist. This trio is indeed celestial!
Many thanks to 2013 Program Chair Darlene Vlasek, who arranged superb musicians for all of our Salons, and topped off the year with this unforgettable performance.
And our heartfelt thanks to Vida and Paul Vazin for welcoming us to their home and providing the perfect setting for us to be transported by this beautiful music.
