On a recent Sunday afternoon, PCLAP held its annual fall fundraiser at the stunningly beautiful setting of Palos Verdes Golf Club.  Over 350 guests and members enjoyed the lively combo of classical music performed by local young musicians, the cabaret style of the Prima Divas and the classic jazz tones of home town favorite David Benoit.  The event was aptly named A Fanfare for Fall and follows in the tradition of Music Fair with its emphasis on highlighting our young musicians.  Guests were delighted by performances by young violinists, flutists and cellists during the opening reception and by a trumpet recessional after the main performance.  Accompanying David Benoit were 2 young musicians – a drummer and a bassist.  The first Music Fair was in 1972 and evolved over the years into a full festival of music.  In recent years, the Fair has been redesigned to modern tastes under titles including A Musical Feast, Peninsula Music Promenade and Music Fair II – Historic Roots – A New Experience.  The tradition of great talent continues!

Thanks to Debby McDonald, who eloquently summed up the evening:

What a wonderful event and fun afternoon.  It was nice to visit with friends and catch up. The Divas light up the stage and brought energy to the room and David Benoit and the two young student musicians brought soul.  Great Job!

  1. Stylin’ with the boas…although I’m not sure how they relate to the event. October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, however, it’s cool that they’re pink. Sorry we weren’t there, but our friends, Renate and Stephen A’Hearn, to whom we gave our tickets, couldn’t have had a better time, and won one of the Drawing Prizes to boot. WIN, WIN, WIN!!
